Manga Shakespear Romeo & Juilet #falit2023

Image
The Story takes place in a Tokyo suburb, The Capulet and Montague Yakuza are the new families within this story.  Yakuza families are often associated with intense rivalries and conflicts. Transposing the Montague and Capulet feud into the world of Yakuza feels like its heightened the stakes, making the conflict more visceral and dangerous. The forbidden love between Romeo and Juliet could be even more heightened in a Yakuza setting, where alliances and relationships outside of the family can be viewed with extreme disapproval. The consequences of their love affair might be more severe, adding tension and urgency to their plight.I can say I admire the bravery displayed by Romeo more in this adaptation because being that this is based in Japan and between two yakuza families and my understanding of how unforgiving and brutal they can be. It brings the essence of dying for love to a whole different level in my eyes. I can see this perspective with more clarity. While it may be t...

A Journey into the Extraordinary: Reflecting on "A Very Old Man With Enormous Wings" #faworldlit23

Image
In the realm of magical realism, where the extraordinary and the everyday coalesce seamlessly, Gabriel Garcia Marquez's "A Very Old Man With Enormous Wings" stands as a masterpiece that transcends conventional storytelling. As I delved into the narrative, I found myself captivated by the layers of meaning woven into this short tale. The story begins with the mysterious arrival of an elderly man with enormous wings in a coastal village. The townsfolk, initially driven by curiosity, soon find themselves grappling with the implications of this supernatural occurrence. The angelic figure, rather than conforming to their preconceived notions, challenges their beliefs and societal norms. Marquez employs symbolism with finesse, using the old man as a symbol of the unknown, the miraculous, and the divine. The wings, an emblem of celestial beauty, become both a source of wonder and a burden for the protagonist. As readers, we are compelled to reflect on our own perceptions of the ...

The Seagull #fa23worldlit

Image
"The Seagull" by Anton Chekhov is a masterful play that delves into the complexities of human relationships, the pursuit of art, and the elusive nature of happiness. Written in 1895, the play is a classic example of Chekhovian drama, characterized by its emphasis on subtext, realistic dialogue, and the exploration of the human condition. One of the central themes of "The Seagull" is the conflict between different forms of love and the inherent challenges in communication. The characters are entangled in a web of unrequited love, unfulfilled desires, and miscommunication, leading to a sense of isolation and despair. The unrequited love between Konstantin and Nina, Arkadina and Trigorin, and other characters, reflects the pervasive theme of unattainable happiness. Chekhov brilliantly captures the fragility of human connections and the difficulty of expressing true emotions. The play also explores the tension between traditional and innovative artistic forms. Konstanti...

In essence, world literature is a testament to the power of storytelling and the enduring releva...

Antigone/Socrates + Tragedy #faworldlit23

Image
My reflection about Antigone through Aristotles poetics is that the play evoke's pity and fear beautifully. I think it may be the epitome of what Aristotle thought. The fear of Creons rule and the pity taken on everyone in the film that has passed.  The play allows us to step into the world of Antigone. The story being a heartfelt one that has been passed down through the ages I believe it is a beautiful display of these two emotions. The beauty in this tragedy is Creon being left with nothing after being so spiteful and the way the story ends is fitting for him, but we leave with pity for all the fallen. Aristotle singles out fear and pity because he believes that these are two of the more prominent emotions and they are the easily interpreted and felt by watchers. He believes this because they are wide range of emotions and they can be displayed in a multitude of ways.Aristotle believes that these two emotions together are very powerful in which I agree, but i believe that...
