Reflection of Antigone #fa23worldlit

The Story begins with a tragic war between two brothers. Both losing their lives in battle with one being honored and the other being shamed. The family dynamic presented in the beginning tells me that this family is highly dysfunctional lol. The Uncle Creon is then placed at the head Thebes. The story's issue resides in the burial process of the brothers with one receiving a proper burial and the other being left out and exposed to the world. Antigone takes it upon herself to bury her brother properly. I agree with Antigone on her decision, because I would also value family over state authority (especially if its my uncle). As the story goes on the problems escalate and it end in multiple suicides. I feel that the movie does a great job at bringing this story to life although it is old it still properly delivers the main theme of the story well. The only thing in the story i don't like is the amount of deaths and the causes of death. The story feels melodramatic, but I understand it for the story's sake. Haemon and Antigone remind me of romeo and juliet for obvious reasons. Overall the ending of the trilogy was okay. My favorite part is the brothers dying in battle facing each other. That feels powerful and symbolic and it resonates with me. I feel like there's a sense of respect between the two brothers. One couldn't best the other so they went out together and that is my favorite part of the whole story. I also wanted to say, I think antigone did the right thing in her mind. Love transcends law and all other social constructs the world attempts to instill in us.

  1. I agree with you and Antigone, I would absolutely have buried my brother too, family means way too much to me to not give someone I love the proper burial no matter the consequences.
