What Is World Literature #fa23worldlit.
What is World Literature? Well if i may id like to start by answering this question myself. World Literature is a collection of writing in all forms from various cultures and regions across the globe. Not only is every part of the world unique in its own way but we all share core similarities as well. So being that the world is such a diverse place while maintaining some core similarities, is fascinating. David Damrosch in his article called "What is World Literature" he mentions a lot about a "variety of worlds" and I love that metaphor because it perfectly describes what's going on. These "worlds" are just different places from around our planet. Being that our planet is so big and old there have been countless people who have lived since the dawn of creation and they are things like glyphs, poneglyph's , pictographs and many more things that withhold answers or stories passed down as well, and while that may be a different road since were speaking more about "literature", but one thing i will say is my mind doesn't think technically and i can't disregard all the literature before the human even knew what literature was. People communicated with each other in various ways before language was created for the writing we admire today and I appreciate all forms whether they're considered or not.
Take a look at quipus from ancient Peru. Quipus are "texts" "written" with different colored threads, knotted at different lengths and in different quantities to record histories and information (https://maa.org/press/periodicals/convergence/mathematical-treasure-the-quipu). They are a world literature. Quipus combine material, color, and math to "tell" stories. The Popol Vuh was "written" in Maya glyph originally (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YvLs3gDLCOI). There are so many ways to "write"!
